Single Monitor Configuration:
Optimal Resolution:
Quality Settings:
- Not all Video Cards can handle these settings
- laggy mouse or unstable display is a sign
- 1024x768 in 32-bit see additional panels
Latest Drivers:
- Latest DirectX version
- Drivers must enable 3D Acceleration
- Latest Manufacturer Video Card Drivers (this is a MUST!)
Important Points:
- Disable any Anti-Virus Protection
- Disable Internet Time Updates (disable "Automatically synchronize with an Internet time server")
- Windows Vista: Disable Sidebar (widgets)
Dual Monitor Configuration:
Optimal Resolutions:
- First device should be atleast 1024x768 in 32-bit
- Second device should be lowest we recommend 800x600 in 32-bit
- 32-bit depth good for quality video, be sure your video card is capable
- Some machines may require that you use 16-bit, this is rare.
Latest Drivers:
- Windows XP users should have Service Pack 2 installed, this ensures latest.
- Windows Vista users will have the latest DirectX installed
- Video Card drivers must be updated, always - even Windows Vista users may need to update from their Beta drivers provided by the manufactuer.
- Dual Monitor must be available and working - Primary has icons on the desktop, Secondary is Extended desktop (just the background) and appears on the TV/Projector/Matrix, etc.
- Connection to TV-Out/S-Video/DVI must be configured correctly, you should see a clear picture before running the program.
- NEVER! configure the display properties while the program is running.
Windows Tuning (notes below are for XP):
- 1. XP services (not required):
Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance/Settings/Advanced
-- Process Scheduling/Background Service
- 2. 3D Acceleration:
Control Panel/Display/Settings/Advanced/TroubleShoot/Hardware Acceleration
-- Set to Full
For Swift Elite: Never adjust to any less than "FULL"
For older products (like WinCDG Pro 2): Adjust to one before None
If dual monitor configurations (following auto detect correctly) still cause lag, disable the 'Enable write combining' (requires restarting the machine)
- 3. Monitor and Adapter Selection:
Latest Swift Elite is set to automatically find the second display. A symptom of you placing the output screen yourself on the second monitor would result in high CPU usage and lag.
- 4. 3D video Card Settings:
Adjust your 3D settings to "High Performance". That means all parameters should either be OFF, None, High Performance, or the least as possible. For nVidia adjust in the nView control Center; For ATI adjust in the Catalyst Center; For Intel adjust in the Graphic Properties application.
Using the AutoDetect feature in Swift Elite:
When using Dual Monitors be sure that both your monitors are enabled and set to the correct resolution before running Swift Elite
(use the recommended settings above). Monitors must be configured before running Swift Elite, this is all performed in Windows so it is your resposibility.
When you are ready to run Swift Elite the AutoDetect feature will place the video window.
How to use Autodetect:
- Be sure your second display is enabled, connected, and configured for an Extended Desktop
- Run Swift Elite
Play something and you will see the video in both Preview Monitors and Output (be sure your crossfade is on the correct side, otherwise you will see nothing on the output window).
NVidia Cards (or nVidia Chipsets):
- Latest Drivers are a MUST (nView)
- Laptops update from laptop manufacturer
- Use the nView Manager to configure Dual Monitor
- Always Connect TV/Projector, etc before turning on the machine
- Never Span Windows - nView Properties
- Set Highest Performance - Direct3D Settings
ATI Cards (or ATI Chipsets):
- Latest Drivers are a MUST (Catalyst)
- Laptops update from laptop manufacturer (any card older than X600)
- Use the Displays tab in the Advanced Properties of the First Monitor to enable the second display. Then configure Extended Desktop
in the Display Properties Settings tab to turn it into Dual Monitor (new catalyst Center requires that you drag/drop the icons into place).
- If using a composite out, be sure to adjust TV Settings (get rid of blur, lines, fuzziness, etc)
- Most ATI cards allow you to connect after machine is already on, if that doesn't work try restarting.
- Set Highest Performance - Direct3D Settings
Dual Monitor for ATI Cards:
First connect the two outputs before turning on the computer (the VGA and the Composite TV-Out), and make sure the TV is on the correct channel. Then you must configure the ATI card in Dual Monitor first (without the program running) - enter the Display Properties/Settings/Advanced, look for the ATI Displays tab, select the TV Power button (make it turn green). Now you should see a screen on the TV and on the main monitor. If they are the same (the desktop with icons), when you click OK and return to the Display Properties, select the second display (the one with the 2) and check that the device is already Attached (deep blue), that the resolution settings are atleast 800x600 (or 1024x768) with 32-bit Quality, and that the "Extend my desktop to the second monitor" - this will make the second monitor just the background and is now an extension of the desktop (no icons). Now you are ready to run Swift Elite, if the video window does not end up in the second monitor (turning it black) then set the
Auto Detect option and restart the program.
Dual Monitor for nVidia Cards:
Always connect the two outputs before turning on the computer (the VGA, Composite TV-Out, and/or DVI), and make sure the TV is on the correct channel. Then you must configure the nVidia card in Dual Monitor (without the program running) - enter the Display Properties/Settings/Advanced, enter the nVidia manafucturer tab (i.e. GeForce), enter your nView Wizard. Click Next through every option except disable Window Spanning to "No Spanning", Dialog Repositioning should be "No Repositioning", and when prompted for the screen layout select "Dual View" where the screen is 1 and 2 and that both show a separate window (not mirror or stretched). When you accept the configuration, you should see a screen on the TV and on the main monitor. If they are exactly the same (with desktop with icons) then you chose Mirror, change the option. Check in the Display Properties that the "Extend my desktop to the second monitor" is checked - your result is the second monitor just the
background desktop (no icons). Now you are ready to run Swift Elite, if the video window does not end up in the second monitor (turning it black) then set the Auto Detect option and restart the program.
Slowdown Caused with Auto Detect:
If you have configured the Auto Detect correctly and you still appear to be getting a slowdown, there is one more option you must disable to work correctly in Dual Mode - this option is called "Write Combine". Enter your Display Properties Advanced Options and disable this option (may require a restart of the machine).
