Our products require a CD+G capable drive in order to Rip or play directly from CD+G disc. CD+G data is stored in the CD subcode area, however very few CD-ROM drives support reading this data. Most drives that do are CDR or CD-RW recorders.

Due to the large volume of drives on the market, Tricerasoft is unable to test each and every model with our software. When we test a drive that is compatible it is placed on our “Supported CD+G Drives” list. Drives that are untested but are indicated as CD+G compatible by the manufacturer are on our “Additional CD+G Capable Drives” list.

There are other drives that will work, however only those above have been tested at the time this was written. Most Yamaha and Plextor drives are compatible, as are some Sony, HP, and Panasonic models. Please check the Tricerasoft support page for the latest list. This list will be updated as other drives are tested. Check below for additional drives that MAY be compatible but have not currently been tested.

Although we have not tested the following drives we believe that they may be capable of ripping from CD+G disc. We do not guarantee that these drives will work with our software however most of the drives below are OEM’d from the manufacturers listed above and in some cases are identical drives except for minor firmware changes. If you have a drive listed below and it works for you please contact us.

TriceraSoft is unable to test every drive on the market for CD+G compatibility, however you may find information on other sites, such as CD Burner software, or other Karaoke software sites. Below are a few sites you might want to check when trying to find a compatible drive. Remember that many drives are manufactured and new models are always being released and old models discontinued... If you cannot specifically test the drive with our software before purchasing it make sure your dealer has a good replacement or exchange policy. Click on the [info] link for drive info!

• GoldenHawk - Makers of CD burning software with long-time CD+G support. [info]
• Nero by Ahead Systems - CD burning software. [info]
• Padus Disc Juggler - CD Burning Software - [info]
• CloneCD - CD Burning Software - Look for drives labelled RAW+96 for Audio mode.[info]
• MTU - Karaoke disc copiers. [info]
• Roxio (Adaptec) - Makers of EZCD. Good Database. [info]

If you have a laptop computer you may be interested in connecting an external CD reader to the laptop to create a nice portable Karaoke solution. Some newer laptops even have video outputs that allow you to connect to a TV or projector. If your laptop has a CD+G compatible drive already built in you are in luck, otherwise you will want to add an external drive. The following are possible ways to hook up a CD-ROM reader or recorder to your laptop:

• Parallel Port - Usually too slow. Not recommended.
• PC Card - Could be a special interface or some type of IDE variant. Unkown.
• SCSI PC Card - Very good. Recommended in conjunction with Yamaha or Plextor drive.
• USB - Okay. HP8210e is the only USB drive we have tested as compatible. There are USB to IDE enclosures that would allow you to use any of the supported IDE drives on the list.
• USB2 - Good potential. This is a new standard to compete with Firewire. It is much faster than USB but is very new. USB2 compatible equipment and interfaces are just now becoming available.
• Firewire - Very New/Fast. This could be the one to get in the future.

We are in the process of testing some of these solutions and we will be posting positive results as they are found. So far the following has been tested as CD+G compatible:

• External "No Name" USB enclosure Model MAP-K51U (OnSpec interface).
• ADS Technologies Pyro 1394 Drive Kit - External IEEE-1394 (Firewire) Enclosure. Note: Laptop users will most likely need a Cardbus Firewire adapter.

Note: External enclosures were tested with a Plextor 12/10/32A IDE drive but should also work with any CD+G compatible IDE drive on our list.

• Most Yamaha Recorders are compatible.
• Most Plextor drives are compatible (A Plextor is most recommended as a reliable CD+G reader drive).
• Some HP Recorders are compatible (8100 series and higher).
• If a drive is listed as CD-Text compatible it MAY also support CD+G.
• This list is not complete. If a drive is not listed it does not mean it IS or IS NOT compatible, only that is has not yet been tested.

• TriceraSoft can not guarantee certified drives will work under all conditions on all systems!

Visit the Nero.com website and download the "Nero Infotool". This tool will help to assess the features of your drives including installed components. Look for CD+G as part of the capabilities listed.

Known Issues:

• We are unable to read the Sony drives capabilities page and thus the drive will appear incompatible though the drive may still be compatible, you will need to test the drive.
• Yamaha drives may not clearly read the CD+G data, this is either due to the drive or the ASPI driver. If updating your ASPI driver to the latest version does not clear up the bad data then the drive may be unreliable for CD+G playback
