Using CDG ripper to rip karaoke disc. Put the karaoke disc in the drive and then load ripper. CDG ripper is a small interface program that does nothing but rip and it does it very efficiently. It does not burn, it only rips. When you load the program you will see this screen.
CD Drive: If you have more than one cd drive, it will pick them all up and you choose the drive. In the pic I chose my plextor drive. Notice right under the drive window you see a green arrow that says Drive appears to be compatible. This means it most likely is a cdg compatible drive. Speed Override: We recommend no faster than 4 speed for cdg ripping. Even though your burner may be a 40x Plextor and you’ve never gotten a bad rip. That may be true for a standard audio cd. CDGS are a completely different kind of cd, and cdg brands are also different! So pick a comfortable speed for most all manufacturers and that is 4x. Mode: CDG Ripper is supposed to autoselect the best mode. Take a look at the dropdown list and choose your burner type if it is listed. If it is not, use MMC Standard mode. This is the generic mode. If you have problems, and lowering the rip speed doesn't fix them, try MMC Deinterleave. General Options: To be frank, these are pretty much useless. FreeDB does not list karaoke discs, and the tiny database of discs that comes with CDG Ripper is full of errors. And we are not interested in creating KMF. MP3 Options: Most releases of CDG Ripper install the blade encoder, so don’t change this setting. Sample rate should be 44100 as shown and the bitrate should be 128 which is the channel standard. If you do not have an mp3 encoder dll you can get the Blade or LAME encoder dll plugins from the channel. Type !funny-man in the channel and follow the instructions for downloading the encoder you want. Base Filename: This box is not labeled, but it is the box to the left of the Base button. If you type the disc code of the disc here and click the Base button, it will automatically name the ripped tracks with the disc code and track number. For example: If we were ripping Big Fish disc 4112 we would type BF4112- and click the Base button. The Base Filename will be reflected in the track listing after you set it. Clicking the Refresh button will clear the Base Filename you have set. Output Path: This is where you want to save the files your ripping. Put a folder in there, if it’s not made yet, the program will create it for you. Or you can click the "..." button to browse to a folder.
The tracks are listed to the right, Track 1, 2, 3 etc. Now first hit the select button and select ALL and notice it highlighted all 12 tracks to the right in the picture. If you don’t do this it only rips the highlighted track. You may want to rename them here but this is up to you.
After the files are selected that you want to rip then choose convert and pick the top choice. Extract to MP3+G.
Leave the Remove Vocal option unchecked. Your karaoke discs already have the vocals removed. Pick the choice stereo which is the default setting. So don’t change it. After that you go get a coke, grab some chips and wait. Let it do it’s thing. It’ll let you know when they are all done. A window will pop up when the rip is complete. Important note Several things can cause bad rips, some things to help control this. CLEAN the cd before you start. Even fingerprints can cause problems. Lower rip speed. And don’t tax the machine during a cdg rip. Cdgs are more picky than just an audio mp3. Your email will be there after the rip! I seldom touch my machine during a rip… Usually start ripping and go watch TV for a few minutes.
Now you are done ripping your karaoke disc. Go look in your rip folder. If you have a cd with ten tracks on it, the finished rip will have 20 files. You will have a cdg file (contains the lyrics) and an mp3 file that contains the music for each track. |
