Swift Elite 4 "How to Start" Guide

The following instructions are for starters and VERY detailed, if you need less detailed instructions please refer to the Tips and Tutorials or the User Guide in the program.

Install the program from the website

  1. Download the program from the Download button or use this link: Download.
  2. Save the file and allow it to finish.
  3. Run the file and allow it to complete the installation.
  4. Once the install is complete you will find the SW4 icon on the desktop and in the Start/Alll Programs/TriceraSoft.
What you will see when you first run the program

  1. The first thing that appears is the output window - if you see the small black window it means you have only one monitor (or "output") configured. Refer further below for details on Dual Monitor.
  2. You will now see the interface appear which is the blue layout with the 2 player decks, either 1 or 2 playlists, and the database (some other items may appear on the interface such as Quick Effects and the Preview deck).
  3. The splash screen (which is the about picture) will appear and you can hide it faster by clicking on it.
  4. If the player is in the 10 day 'Full Mode' a prompt will appear to explain how many days are left.
  5. If the player has gone into trial you may either be prompted to enter a license or no prompt at all.
  6. If the license prompt appears and you have a license you can either;
    a) Enter the code -OR-
    b)Continue in Trial (just click "Continue in Trial").
  7. Your last prompt is "Search for Songs", before clicking Yes or No refer to "Importing Songs".
Importing Songs (step-by-step details)

  1. If you feel confident that all the songs on the machine MUST be added, click Yes when prompted to "Search for Songs" and the program will search all the drives connected - we recommend you import on your own so you have more control on organizing, but if you not sure how to proceed then click Yes.
  2. If you click No you will have an empty database, but that is alright because you can create your own "Collections", the basics you need to know are as follows;
    1. Create a "Collection" which is a virtual folder that holds your song informaton or what we refer to as "links" (you need atleast one collection).
      1. To create a collection you click Create/New Collection.
      2. Select the "New Collection" created and click Edit/Rename Collection, name it and click OK (we recommend for your first collection to be "Audio", "Karaoke", or "Video").
    2. Now you can add songs (or "references") to the Collection.
      1. Songs can be listed from anywhere; the hard-drive, external hard-drive, etc.
      2. You can add one file at a time, several, or a whole folder - we recommend to start with a whole folder and therefore we will outline this method.
      3. With the Collection selected, click Add on the right and choose "Add Folder".
      4. When prompted if you have "selected the correct format" you will select "No" because this is the first time and you must use the wizard.
      5. Before we explain the wizard you must understand why we need the wizard;
        • The program needs to understand how your song files are named so it can properly read the information.
        • It does this by asking you to select ONE song file or a "sample".
        • It will ask you to confirm that the file was read correctly and the naming information divides proper.
        • Only after the wizard is complete will it ask for the upper most folder or "Root" location to read the file information.
      6. Click the "Browse for Sample" button and find a song - it can be any song. If you are adding your audio list then you will locate an MP3 and find one that has alot of the information including Title and Artist. If you are adding karaoke or videos, you can change the type you are looking for (known as a filter) and just find one that again best. represents all the rest of the songs. You want the ONE song that examples the rest - you can dig deep into your folders to find the perfect song. The better the sample represents your collection the better results you will get from importing.
      7. Now that you selected the song, click Open and you will return to the wizard - now click Next.
      8. If the file is an MP3 and it contains an embeded ID3 tag, it will notify you that it exists. Sometimes tags are corrupt or incorrect so if you must you have the option to ignore them and rely only on the name of the files/songs. This is Step 2, to choose or to ignore.
      9. Step 3 is to select a different naming order, this is used if the ID3 tags are not used - it is asking you "which is the correct order you see the name information on the filename". This will not change if the information is coming from an ID3 tag, to change this "Ignore the tags" in step 2.
      10. Before you click Finish LOOK at the Result at the bottom - it will list Artist, Title, and Album, make sure the correct information appears with each heading. If this is wrong, chanage your options in Step 2 and 3. When correct, click Finish.
      11. You are now prompted for the Folder, select the folder or "Root" or where your songs live and click OK, allow the program to search and import entries.
    3. Confirm that you see most of your songs in the collection - the number of songs will appear near the Edit button on the left.
This process should not take you longer than 2 minutes to click through, confirm, and select - the waiting for the adding to complete is the only part that will take time. Later you can learn to create other collections and sub-collections and further organize your song listings. For information on converting songs from a disc and importing the songs into the database, refer to "Ripping" CD+G or CD-Audio tracks.

Searching for Songs

  1. Click the Search button and the Search dialog will appear.
  2. You may adjust the Search window to your liking by stretching the border.
  3. Most of the time you will use "All Fields" and "Match All Keywords".
    • The search uses "keywords" which means it is looking for words or partial words without any particular order.
    • "Match All Keywords" means it is looking for ALL the keywords, it must find them all in the field or "column" to return a match.
    • "All Fields" means that it searches for the keywords in each column in the database, only if it finds all the keywords ("Match All Keywords") in the column will it return a match.
    • If, for example, you are looking for "Elvis Presley" then you just need to enter "Elv Pres" (no quotes).
  4. Enter you keywords and click Search.
  5. You now have several options to add the songs from the search into the playlist;
    • Select the songs, right-click and select "Add to playlist A".
    • Double-click the song and it will at as "Next" (refer to the manual for more information on "Move As Next"). -OR-
    • Drag/drop a song right into the playlist (do not drag on the deck, just the playlist)
The "INTERFACE" Crash Course

  • The interface is the layout you see that has buttons, lists, and menus.
  • The Swift Elite 4 interface has 3 very important areas;
    1. The Player Decks - player decks play one song at a time. The deck chooses another song from the playlist when it finishes with the song unless it is told otherwise (except the preview deck).
    2. The Playlists - whether you use the ONE or TWO playlist interface is your choice, but the principle stays the same that a playlist is simply that a 'LIST'. It is used to organize the order which to play songs. It is not set in stone but the decks will choose a playlist (or you can force it to use the playlist of your choice) and will follow the list in order unless told otherwise. If the deck finds that it runs out of songs it will look to the other playlist to continue, try not to get to this situation unless you intetionally want this to happen.
    3. The Database - this is where you search for songs, organize them, and overall keep most of your song references. The database is what makes everything available with a click.
  • When an indicator is Green it means enabled, if it is Red then it is disabled.
  • A Player Deck has a default behaviour of playing a single song, removing the item from the playlist when it finishes, selecting the next and waits. The Crossfader waits for the deck to finish and when it sees it nearing the end it fades and starts the other Player deck. The crossfader is starting the other deck (not the deck), therefore if you don't want it to then turn off Auto Crossfade (turn it off by setting the Auto button to Red).
  • The decks each have a "Queue Mode" button - Queue Mode sets the deck to remove the song it loaded from the playlist when it is finished. You can change this at any time and separately for each Player deck.
Once you purchase the license, how to enter the code (step-by-step detailed)

  1. When you run the program a prompt for the license will appear, if the dialog does not appear (which means you are still in the trial mdoe) then locate the menu with "Activation Information" (right-click at the top of the program and select "Activation Information).
  2. If the computer with the program installed has internet access, you enter your name in the Customer/User Name field and click "Check Online" - the program will do the rest, this option is only available once. If you have done this already then there is no need to manually enter the code and you have completed the process.
  3. To enter the code manually use copy and paste, highlight the code in the email from the beginning of the code to the end holding the left mouse button (the code starts with SWE400) then let go of the button when you reach the end. Right-click on the highlighted area and select Copy. Then right-click into the entry field in the program and select Paste. If there are spaces before or after the code, just clear them up with delete and backspace. Type in your name and click Activate.
Where to find the manual and additional "Tips and Tutorials"

  1. a) Click Start/All Programs/TriceraSoft and locate the "SW4 User Guide".
    b) If you have a PDF reader available on your machine then locate the "SW4 user Manual (PDF)".
    c) The manual can also be found by right-clicking on the program interface and selecting "Help Guide".
  2. Locate the Tips and Tutorials by right-clicking on the interface and selecting "Tips and Tutorials".
What is Dual Monitor?

Dual monitor is when you configure your computer video card to display on two screens or "outputs". This is done in Windows under the configuration for your video card and controlled using the video card software utility. You make the change only under Windows without the program running. It is important to not be running any programs while you configure Dual Monitor. You do not make any changes in the program settings to use this function, you only run the program once the configuration is complete.

Summary

This guide has covered the basics to start up and begin playing songs. Once you master the basics you can add more features that add visuals, automation, kiosk tools, and many other really cool all-in-one functions.
